Are they talking about masturbation here? Please, God, don't let them be talking about masturbation.
"Only the lonely can play." So it's come to this -- in her never-ending quest to serve up heaping helpings of pithy platitudes, Karen Moy has now been forced to dip into Motels lyrics. I can hardly wait until next week, when Wilbur Weston will be quoting from the collected works of Quarterflash.
Meanwhile, since when is Vera positioned at "the top?" Last we heard, she's in the typing pool at minimum wage -- which, considering that the typing pool went the way of the dictaphone somewhere around 1989, doesn't sound like a promising path to the top.
God only knows WHAT'S going on in the background of that first panel, by the way. I think that waiter is about to receive the tip of a lifetime.
(Speaking of Mary -- of course you can always get a daily dose of Mary Worth snark at The Comics Curmudgeon, but I'd also like to draw your attention to The Wanders Blog, whose author appears to have been bitten by the Mary bug as well.)
WHat is in those glasses?? Blood? And why is their skin the same sickening shade of grey as the walls?

Oh no you din-n't. Thanks for the plug. Is the Mary bug anything like the vomiting in "The Invasion" that I watched last night? If you don't know what I'm talking about, consider yourself blessed.

Quarterflash is probably not far off - look at that horrid salmon-colored cheetah print blouse she's wearing. If that doesn't scream the ugly '80s, I don't know what does. No wonder she looks so concerned in the first scene.
BTW, is Ms. Moy color blind?

Funny you mention masturbation. I was just at the Apple Store googling "songs about masturbation". Lots of room for debate their. Only The Lonely by The Motels oddly didn't make the cut.

I think in the background of panel 1, the waiter and dinner guest are playing their own version of "pull my finger."
